Nine (9) Filamerian scouters were honored by the National Court of Honor with the Eagle Scout award, the highest rank by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), last June 29, 2009 at the FCC Roblee Hall. They are Aljun D. Blancaflor, Nervin D. Borreta, Mark Lester E. Inocencio, Warren L. Paredes, Alejandre C. Brotario Jr., Amiel P. Bucayan, Kevin B. Sihiyon, Jobern B. Loretizo, and Francis Kent F. Tipon.
The Boy Scout program Filamer, led by High School teacher and Outfit Advisor, Mr. Yogie Bien D. Obsiana, has been successful in producing Eagle Scouts year in and year out. The program' aims to imbue in the youth the love of God, country, and fellow men; to train young people to become responsible leaders; and to contribute in nation-building.
To be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must lead in planning and doing two community service projects and earn a total of 21 merit badges consisting of 15 required merit badges and 2 specialist ratings (a specialist rating involves 3 related merit badges and a community service project).
CN's 36th & 37th Capping & Candlelighting Rites
The College of Nursing conducted its 36th and 37th Capping and Candlelighting Ceremonies last June 25 and 26 respectively, at the FCC Gym. This marks the first time that two successive BSN batches held these key ceremonies.
Filamerian alumna and Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) 8th Placer, Ms. Josephine C. Elvas, led the candidates with their parents, clinical instructors, and honored guests in these traditional nursing rites. The capping ceremony presents new nursing students their caps, a universally recognized symbol of nursing, before beginning their clinical training. These rites included presentation of candidates, lighting of candles by the nursing students and clinical instructors, distribution of the Bible, singing of the Nightingale's Pledge song, and the nurse's prayer.
A Seminar-Workshop on Qualitative Research was held last June 5-6, 2009 at the FCC Audio Visual and Conference Center sponsored by the Capiz Historical Institute (CHI). This two-day activity was successful in establishing a research agenda for Capiz. Several case discussions included The Multiple Names of the People of Capiz Folklore Research; The Legends of Giant Pilar Cave, Olotayan and Sapatos Islands, and Mantalinga and Tuwad Islets; and Kalakaran: A Cultural Analysis of a Government Agency. The key resource persons were Dr. Leothiny S. Clavel (UPV), Mr. Romel Arceño (Capiz Local Historian), and Mrs. Loreta Vivian B. Ramel-Galima. Participants came from the local government, academe, non-government organizations, and the media.
FCC Heads conduct Operational Planning
All academic heads and heads of offices of Filamer Christian College joined in an Operational Planning in order to prepare for the challenges of School Year 2009-2010 last May 29-30 at the Lakehouse, San Antonio Resort, Baybay, Roxas City. The first day focused on the operational plans of each unit as they are presented by the unit heads or officer-in-charge. The second day saw the integration of the operational plans of the Academic Affairs, and Finance and Administration, which was presented to the Board of Trustees. There will be a lot of improvement in terms of the school's faculty, facilities and organization in view of Filamer's bid to become the first private University in the province of Capiz.
1st CBI, DCM & AB-Religion Grand Reunion Held
"Blend & Mix" was the striking call on the 1st ever Grand Reunion Alumni Homecoming of CBI, DCM, and AB-Religion last May 20, 2009 at the AVCC, Filamer Christian College, Roxas City. With the theme "Pagtililipon sa Pagpalig-on" and text found in Hebrews 10:25, this event also served as a Farewell Party for the outgoing Christian Education Director, Mrs. Roquita Grande, who has served Filamer for most of her life.
FCC–CN Honored as "Dungog Capiznon"
The Filamer College College - College of Nursing is a recipeint of the Dungog Capiznon (Pride of Capiz) Award by the Capiz Provincial Government during the Capiztahan 2009 festivities last April 13-15, 2009. The FCC-CN was one of the two institutions (while the eight awardees were individuals) which were honored for outstanding and meritorious performance in the continuing commitment to quality education in its Nursing program which produced topnotchers in the Nursing Licensure Examinations.
A Filamerian got in the Top 8 and Filamer has the Highest Passing Percentage in Roxas City and Capiz during the November 2008 Nursing Board Exam. Dungog Capiznon Awarding Night, held last April 13, 2009 at the Hall of Governors, Provincial Capitol, is one of the highlights of the 108th Founding Anniversary Celebration of Capiz or Capiztahan 2009.
