FCU to offer new courses starting SY 2018-2019

Addressing the demands of various industries and opening doors for greater job opportunities to her clientele, Filamer Christian University will open additional nine new courses in the long list of programs already offered starting Academic Year 2018 - 2019.

The College of Teacher Education (CTE), home of the University's flagship programs with highest accreditation levels, and the only producer of top notchers in the Licensure Exam for Teachers in the province of Capiz, will offer the following:

  • Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNEd - Generalist) - Graduates of the generalist BSNEd may be employed in special education centers/clinics as special education teachers, therapists, or clinicians.
  • Bachelor of Special Needs Education with specializations in:
    • a. Early Childhood Education (Graduates of BSNEd with specialization in ECE can teach in regular schools as ECE teachers, special education teachers, and learning support staff)
    • b. Teaching Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Learners (Graduates of BSNEd with specialization in Teaching Learners with Hearing Impairment can teach in special education centers and regular inclusive schools as special education teachers and as learning support staff)
    • c. Elementary School Teaching (BSNEd with specialization in Elementary School Teaching can work as regular classroom/subject teachers in regular inclusive schools. They may also opt to teach in special education centers.
  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) - This is the teaching in kindergarten schools.
  • Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences (BSESS), which is a THREE-YEAR COURSE program, has the following specializations:
    • a. Fitness and Sports Coaching (BSESS with specialization in Fitness and Sports Coaching can work as Exercise and Sport Specialist working in National Sports Associations (NSAs), government organizations, scholastic and professional sports programs; Fitness and Sports Program Specialist in community sports and wellness; Strength and Conditioning Specialist; and Corporate and Commercial Fitness Practitioners.)
    • b. Fitness and Sports Management (BSESS with specialization in Fitness and Sports Management can work as Fitness and Recreation Leader/Consultant; Sports, Fitness and Wellness Facilities Manager; Sports, Fitness and Recreational Events Manager; Sports Tourism Officer; and Fitness, Sports and Recreation Entrepreneur.)
  • Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAEd) - (Graduates of BCAEd can work as teachers in K to 12 Music and Arts, Special Program for the Arts (SPA), Arts and Design track for Grades 11 & 12, and in core subjects in Grades 11 and 12 related to Arts; Cultural and Arts Coordinator at the school, district, division, and regional levels of the education system; can handle positions relating to culture and arts such as in tourism offices in the LGUs, museums and art galleries, and creative industries.)
  • Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) - (Graduates of BPEd can work as Physical Education Teacher in Basic Education, Dance and Sports Club Moderator, School-based Sports Program and Events Moderator/Coordinator)

Meanwhile, the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), which holds the record of having highest passing percentage in the Certified Public Accountant board examinations, and produces biggest number of graduates in the fields of business, management, and organizational processes, will offer:

  • Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (The goal of this program is for the graduates to set up, manage, and operate a business, assume managerial positions in the field of business development, corporate planning, and other related positions in the corporate or public organizations or non-government organizations.)

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) which is considered as the mother of all colleges, has the following new courses:

  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology (This program provides initial training for those interested in teaching, research, and the practice of psychology; preparation for graduate studies in psychology as well as further studies in other professions such as medicine, law, business management. Graduates of BS in Psychology can become licensed psychometricians, or work in the academe, in the HR, or in research.)
  • Bachelor of Science in Social Work (This is geared towards the preparation of students for generalist social work practice. Specific occupations social work graduates may go into: case manager, groupworker, social work counselor, community organizer, researcher in social welfare agencies, policy/legislative advocacy officer, social welfare and development officer in LGUs, social agency manager, trainor, teacher, social worker, officer for project management and development.)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies (This program involves training in a range of skills such as advanced communicative competence, effective strategies in rhetoric and research, and modes of literacy that provide access to micro/macro skills, and integrated competencies, specific and generic skills in literature, and formation and development of values and attitudes. Careers that open up widely to students trained in this program include legal, business, mass and social media, diplomacy, health and medical and service-oriented professions, marketing communication, entertainment, creative industry, publishing, and academe.)
  • Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (This program is designed to integrate theory and practice to prepare the students for effective communication in English in diverse contexts and situations. Career opportunities include: academic and scholarly work such as teaching and research, business and industry jobs such as public relations, advertising and documentation, media and publishing such as writing, translating, and editing, and government and diplomatic service.)

All these courses will be offered starting first semester of School Year 2018 - 2019, along with the existing programs. Entrance exam for incoming freshmen/first year college students, and transferees, will start on March, enrollment will commence on April 16, and classes for college level will begin July 2.
